Propane Leak Contained in Kent, CT; Evacuation Lifted After Swift Response

Emergency responders effectively managed a propane leak situation in Kent, Connecticut, ensuring the safety of the local community. The incident unfolded on a recent Tuesday evening when authorities were alerted to a propane delivery truck parked on Kent Green Boulevard with a leak in one of its lines. In a quick and coordinated response, the Kent Fire Department took immediate action by evacuating the area within a 330-foot radius of the truck.

To address the potentially hazardous situation, a controlled depressurization process was initiated for the truck’s plumbing. Simultaneously, thorough monitoring of combustible gas levels was conducted to ensure that the leak was under control. This cautious approach helped mitigate any potential risks associated with the leaked propane.

Around 15 to 20 gallons of propane were safely released during the controlled depressurization process. Once the situation was deemed safe, the truck was returned to the propane company responsible for the delivery. The collaboration between various fire departments in the vicinity played a crucial role in effectively managing the incident.

Approximately three hours after the initial report, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) confirmed that the affected area had been secured. Subsequently, the evacuation order that had been in place was lifted, allowing residents to return to their homes and normal activities. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries resulting from the propane leak.

The successful containment of the leak in Kent highlights the importance of prompt emergency response measures and the effective coordination among various agencies.
