National Propane Day 2023: Celebrating Propane’s Resilience in Material Handling

The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) celebrated the second annual National Propane Day on October 7.

Jim Bunsey, Director of Commercial Business Development at PERC, emphasized the crucial role of propane in material handling operations, stating, “By keeping both small and large material handling operations running, propane is the powerhouse of the U.S. supply chain.”

Propane has been the trusted choice for material handling operations across the United States for decades, and its reliability remains unwavering. It serves as the lifeblood of these operations, ensuring an uninterrupted power supply across the board. Propane is not confined to outdoor use; it’s also safely employed in well-ventilated indoor spaces. This versatile energy source keeps products in motion and preserves air quality by emitting minimal harmful substances. Today, propane fuels various equipment, from forklifts and terminal tractors to light- and medium-duty vehicles.

Propane’s eco-friendliness, high efficiency, and unwavering reliability make it a standout choice. It is an ideal energy source to fortify both warehouses and ports, enhancing their resilience. With the capability to power both primary and backup generators, facilities can operate seamlessly, regardless of the electric grid’s status.

Jim Bunsey elaborated, “National Propane Day is about recognizing the impact of propane on material handling operations throughout the nation.”

As part of the National Propane Day celebration, PERC also highlighted renewable propane’s continuous growth and production. This ultra-low carbon option propels the propane industry closer to achieving zero carbon emissions. Renewable propane is primarily derived from plant and vegetable oils, animal fats, or cooking oil. It retains all the exceptional qualities of conventional propane—reliability, portability, and robust power—while presenting the added benefit of introducing no new carbon into the environment.
